Remarks by the Chief Magistrate of Kowloong.
Excellency,
I beg to submit this case to the Governor, and to observe, that, it has attained unusual length, causing anxiety on my part to lift thoroughly the matter brought before me.
And in commenting thereon, I have to remark, that the best witness given by the prosecution, the 2nd Mate of the Frisicution, gave prompt, and to the purpose, answers to the questions put to him in cross-examination, with the exceptions, however, of his identifying the body as his brother's.
And it appears to me singular, that his evidence is all the more valuable for discovering the body. He did not then proceed with it, either to Siam, or Hong Kong, to enable due enquiry to be made.
His stated conversation with the female prisoner (Wong-neithe) on the 22nd April, would be important if it could be proved...
